Chinese art is expensive

This chilling profile of a Chinese man sold for almost a million dollars!

NEW YORK - A portrait of a young man sold for nearly a million dollars Friday at Sotheby's first-ever New York auction of contemporary Chinese art, which brought in more than $13 million.

An anonymous bidder paid $979,200 for "Bloodline Series: Comrade No. 120" (1998), one of Zhang Xiaogang's first large-scale single portraits, setting a record for the artist at auction, Sotheby's said in a news release.

The work was among more than 200 paintings, sculptures, photographs, videos and installations featured in the auction.
It was painted in '98 so it is a contemporary painting. Pretty amazing!
